Are you tired of being stuck at home? Can’t find a court thats unlocked? Are you missing that new ball smell? Well, there’s still something that you can do to stay sharp and maybe even improve your tennis game while you’re stuck in quarantine. That’s using visualization.
Visualizing is a proven training tactic of top professional athletes the world over. You can use it from the comfort of your home and it doesn’t cost a thing.
Just close your eyes and picture in your mind’s eye what you want to see. The stronger the image that you create, the more effective it becomes. See yourself playing from inside your body. And see yourself having fun playing this game we all love.
I used visualization for a variety of facets of my game, from seeing myself implementing my coach’s instructions after a productive lesson to getting myself prepared with strategies for my college matches. I would visualize myself playing well in pressure situations and performing my best in those moments.
See yourself playing the best you’ve ever played, moving around the court and smacking winners. See the ball’s spin. See the sweetspot strike the ball while you feel and hear contact.
Your mind will be that much more ready for the day when we can all return to tennis.
